Space Junk and Other Stuff

By Larree Quixote

Life is so crazy in the COVID-19 world. A week ago… or was it three weeks ago? Well, whenever it was, I woke up five days in a row thinking it was Sunday! It’s out of control. And local cases are on the rise again. Hospitals are jamming up. I feel Lockdown 2.0 is coming any day now. And the whole world is going insane around me. So I log in and escape the madness…

Space Junk…

I’ve been doing a lot of exploring lately. Walking, driving, riding the rails. Climbing in the mountains; swimming and boating. I have been all over Bellisseria and everything is the same everywhere I go. Every. Region. Is. The. Same. There is a running theme here. No, it has nothing to do with the terrain or the landscaping. Every region is unique and interesting. And not the homes. They may be similar within each region, but with four styles to choose from within each theme, and all the personalization, there are many nice homes to look at. It’s all so beautiful; absolutely wonderful! So what is the problem here? Why do I feel like I’m in the Second Life remake of that old Vincent Price film where he’s the last man on Earth - what’s it called? Oh yeah! The Last Man on Earth! Where is everybody? Where are all the people?! I have my suspicions. Let’s find out!

I teleported to my platform above the Bellisseria Homeless Union House. Then I opened up my draw distance to see what was out there. I did not expect to see empty skies, but I surely did not expect to see the amount of stuff I saw! So. Much. Stuff! Skybox after skybox of every shape and size as far as the eye could see. I was fascinated! So I decided to explore in the sky to see what was out there.

I dropped my draw distance for flying. Then I cranked my Mystitool to ‘fasterer’ and flew straight up into the sky to about 3,500m. I opened up my draw distance again and slowly spun around. I was onto something, for sure. I knew this could be treacherous as there had to be an abundance of security orbs ready to boot me home in a heartbeat, so I set out slowly. I traveled west and eventually stopped and hovered over Millbank, home of our volcano - Mt. Saint Bellisseria. I rose a little higher. And the higher I went, the more space junk I saw! I cammed in on a few of the more interesting skyboxes. There was a large space helmet with a futuristic Jetsons House theme, a few ranch houses in boxes with mountain views, a castle, a dungeon filled with sex beds and other interesting toys, and a space alien moon base with antennae pointed at the world below. The aliens were obviously fascinated by the lack of life on the surface, too.

I no longer wonder why I never run into a lot of people on the ground. I finally found the answer. Most of the regular residents of Bellisseria were living in skyboxes instead of their beautiful homes! Most people hang out in the sky, leaving the ground level looking like a ghost town. Empty. Lonely. Lacking life and movement. And that is so disappointing! I always thought the whole idea behind Bellisseria was to build community! Meet up with our neighbors! Make new friends! Get together for picnics, block parties, playing some ball in the street and hanging out! Maybe even meeting up on the corner to share a joint! All that cool stuff we do with our neighbors. Linden Labs had a terrific vision for Bellisseria. But it is up to us residents to make it happen!

So come on down, good citizens of Bellisseria! Come on down to ground level and let’s all be the community Linden Labs envisioned when they originally created Bellisseria. Let’s be the dream. Together.

…and other stuff…

I just played my first music gig in Bellisseria! I performed a set of live music at the Gastonbelli Live Music Festival at the Fairgrounds. I have to say that it was one of the coolest gigs I have played in my ten years in Second Life! The crowd was fantastic, and I think some of them may have had as much fun as me! Doc and BJoyful produced an excellent show, and Doc’s stage was spectacular! Such a pleasure to play. I hope Gastonbelli Live Music Festival becomes an annual event. I played a psychedelic lased set including music by the Jefferson Airplane and the Jefferson Starship, Sun Ra, and The Grateful Dead. I also performed a rousing version of Barry McGuire’s ‘Eve of Destruction’. But the high point of the show for me was slenderman joining me on the stage! It was a pleasure to be in the presence of the one and only Slendy! It really made my night. I will definitely be doing more Bellisseria shows in the future!

My gig at the Gastonbelli Live Music Festival:

Anything else?

Yes! The new waterfront stilt houses are great! I look forward to exploring the new regions as they are released. And I hope the people who get these houses live in them. Not in the sky!

Have a great Summer, everybody!
